EON Energy is one of the UK’s biggest integrated power and gas companies and used to be known as Powergen. It is owned by investors and offers a variety of tariffs on dual fuel, gas and electricity packages. They also offer green tariffs to help to develop sources of renewable energy and reduce your carbon footprint.

EON was first set up from the privatisation of the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) and has grown in popularity ever since. It is a producer, distributor and retailer of electricity and gas within the UK.

They use the UK’s largest offshore wind farm in order to produce green energy. As well as this, they also collaborate with Climate Care which is an organisation with an aim in reducing greenhouse gases on behalf of consumers and businesses. It promotes low carbon technology and cuts down carbon dioxide, which are done through a range of projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency. EON Energy also take part in various green energy schemes to generate enough green energy to meet residential needs of Manchester alone.

In May 2007, they started work on a £500 million gas fired combined heat and power station in Kent and this will be able to take care of producing enough electricity for about one million homes. In January 2006, they also began building the country’s biggest dedicated biomass plant near Lockerbie.

EON sponsors a big programme called Heat Streets which installs energy efficient measures in communities across the UK. More than 40 thousands energy efficient measures have been put in so far and help local authorities to meet Decent Home obligations. These improvements include the likes of insulation, replacement gas boilers, full gas central heating systems and hot water cylinder jackets.
